Background
South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (or AONB) Partnership Committee were in the process of putting together their Management Plan for the next 5 years and had developed an online questionnaire to gain the views of residents and those with an interest in the area on what they feel the SDAONB is about and what the priorities should be.
Challenge
In addition to the online survey, the client required a face-to-face consultation exercise to be carried out to ensure that they got a robust sample size.
Solution
752 on street surveys were carried out in areas in and around the SDAONB in the following locations:
- Totnes
- Brixham
- Dartmouth/Paignton
- Salcombe/Kingsbridge
- Modbury/Plymstock
Questionnaires were completed with those who were resident to the area or who visited it regularly for work or leisure.
Outcome
The results of the survey gave the Committee a clear view on what residents understood about the AONB and what they felt the Committee’s priorities should be for the following 5 years.
